Subject: Answers to Question on Some Members of IEEEE

Hello Everyone,
I have received questions from few members on a letter being written
by Cliff Cumming trying to move the activities of SystemVerilog under IEEE
1364 committee.
Cliff has asked me to replace him as the sv-bc. I have contacted couple of
good individuals and we will continue without Cliff.
Before I provide certain answers, let me first say the following:
We have put a team of people last year to work together. This team
has grown for 3.1 by at 1.5X. I do not want this matter to explode into
Accellera versus 1364 IEEE Committee. Majority of us are members of IEEE,
and also the majority of us are members of Accellera. All Accellera
standards will go eventually to IEEE. Accellera is know for the development
of standards based on real working tools. Accellera is also known in
building strong and robust standards.
The current work for SystemVerilog 3.1 will continue under
Accellera. When Accellera is ready it will transfer to this to "an" IEEE
committee. SystemVerilog may not go to IEEE 1364. We have put a strong
organizations for SystemVerilog. And I hope that the movement set by few
individuals will not distract from our set goals.
Accellera owns SystemVerilog and also as members we have obligation
to continue our work on existing donations and also planned donations.
I and my "current" chairs support Accellera activities and will
continue this effort until it is completed. Accellera board has already
given us the green light to continue few months ago. They also have provided
the funding necessary to do so.
