Hi, All -
I need to make one important correction to Vassilios' email concerning my
resignation as SystemVerilog Basic Committee Chair. It was my idea to write
the letter requesting that SystemVerilog work and Accellera committee
members be absorbed by the IEEE Verilog Standards Group. I brought up the
subject in a VSG meeting in July and it was then suggested by those in
attendance that I write my letter on behalf of the VSG in such a way that
members of the VSG would be willing to sign it.
I have circulated a draft letter among the active VSG members and I have
received feedback from members of the VSG that the draft sounds too much
like I am declaring a turf war, which was not my intention. Members of the
VSG are offering suggestions for modifications to the letter to give it a
more neutral tone, which I appreciate.
My sole motivation for writing the letter is that I do not want to debate
all of the SystemVerilog proposed enhancements twice and I do not want to
do all of the documentation twice, once in Accellera and again in the VSG.
I do not have time to do the work twice and that is why I proposed writing
the letter to the Accellera Board of Directors suggesting a different way
to move forward on SystemVerilog Standards.
Please note: Mike McNamara did not assign me to write this letter. Mike has
not offered any suggested wording for the letter and Mike has not yet even
said that he will sign the letter. This is not a political maneuver or
power play by either Mike or myself. Simply put, I really only want to do
the work once. I also believe there are opportunities for cooperation
between Accellera and the IEEE that can accelerate completion and adoption
of ongoing SystemVerilog standards.
My apologies to Vassilios and Mike McNamara for the misunderstanding.
