You highlight one of the reasons why standardization of a Random Number
generator has been resisted by the EDA vendors in Verilog. There are many to
choose from.

I don't suppose it would be plausible to consider the Mersenne Twister
random number generator? It's a high quality PRNG specifically intended for
simulation/modeling use, and the implementations are portable and fast.
