BTW, my interpretation that line continuation applies first rests on the fact that the LRM refers to a one-line comment being included in the macro text, just not becoming part of the substituted text. I recognize that this wording may have been accidental, without specific intent to specify this precedence. But since this seems like the more useful way for this to behave, I see no problem taking advantage of it.
