Vassilios has asked me to chair the C/C++ subcommittee for SystemVerilog
3.1 If you are interested in joining this committee please let me know. A
special e-mail reflector for the subcommittee will be created once we have
an idea of who is interested in participating.
To help you decide if you are interested, let me throw out my first
thoughts on the scope of what we will try to accomplish. Of course, these
are just my initial thoughts. Our first conference call will be to
brainstorm and work out the specific goals and milestones.
I would like our committee to define 3 primary aspects of SystemVerilog:
1) Tighter integration of C/C++ within the Verilog HDL. Something along
the lines of the capabilities of Synopsys' DirectC and Co-design's C-blend.
2) Define a high-performance, limited access procedural interface, if needed.
3) Define extensions to the Verilog PLI to support all the SystemVerilog
extensions to Verilog. Or, as a minimum, define recommendations and
guidelines on how the IEEE 1364 group should implement SystemVerilog in the
PLI.
I do not think all of these goals can be fully accomplished for
SystemVerilog 3.1, but I think a subset of each goal must be in 3.1. Our
first meeting(s) will need to establish both short-term (for 3.1)
milestones and longer-term milestones.
We will hold our first conference call early in July. With DAC next week
and many in the EDA industry taking vacation or catching up on real work
right after DAC, I don't think we can accomplish anything before July. For
now, we will just get the committee formed.
Please hold off on responding on my initial thoughts, until we have a
subcommittee reflector set up.
I look forward to working with those of you interested in participating on
the C/C++ subcommittee!
