Actually, the term 'symbol' is also used in the LRM, as in 5.7.2: "1.2E12 (the exponent symbol can be e or E)" 9.4: "- A delay control, which is introduced by the symbol # - An event control, which is introduced by the symbol @" 11.3: "The symbols for the SystemVerilog operators are similar to those in the C programming language." 29.4.2: "The symbols *> and => each represent a different kind of connection between the module path source and the module path destination." 29.4.6: "Multiple module paths may be described in a single statement by using the symbol *> to connect a comma-separated list of sources to a comma-separated list of destinations." But I'm still OK with changing it. "Symbol" is also used in the LRM in a different sense, as in 6.4: "A singular variable or expression represents a single value, symbol, or handle," and there are other examples.
