Paul -

Now that you are a member of the IEEE-SA Board of Governors, I would like
to officially register a protest against the $10 membership fee to belong
to IEEE-SA for the privilege of voting for the Standards that I help create.

As you well know, active participation on HDL Standards bodies takes
hundreds of hours to propose and review materials and thousands of dollars
in either lost revenue or actual expenditures to attend meetings in person
or by long-distance conference calls. Although an extra $10 is a very
little expense compared to other actual expenses, it seems obscene to tax
the people who are donating time and expertise to create a document that
the IEEE intends to sell for a profit.

Why not just add a few extra dollars to the cost of the Standard as opposed
to taxing those who are donating effort to create the Standard?

My unscientific polling of other members of the Standards Groups on which I
participate, and members from other Standards Groups, has revealed almost
unanimous disgust for this additional fee. I believe this really gives the
IEEE another money-grubbing black-eye.

Regards - Cliff
