Cliff,
I'm sorry, I can't agree, and as you know, I have been writing Verilog since
1989.
It is true that both defparams and quasi-continuous assignments are abused,
but that is true of many features. Nevertheless, they have a place.
For example, I had a recent case in which quasi-continuous assignments
substantially simplified my testbench code. Don't be thinking only about design
code.
We also discourage use of full_case and parallel_case directives, but we also
recognize that there are still cases where they are useful.
I believe a more constructive proposal would be to limit the use of often-abused
features to certain cases.
