I would like to add support for your .* proposal, though I can't
vote under the attendance rules:

Intel, HP, and Cyrix it seems all have had this or similar
capabilities...

As far as position, I still like it last because it suggests
a 'default rule if not explicitly specified' flow. This will
also allow others in-house tools that allow renaming signals
through regular expression processing to insert these extra
directives before the .* 'handle the rest' syntax.
