Functional Safety Proposed Working Group

To examine creation of a new standard for functional safety.

Chair: Alessandra Nardi, Cadence Design Systems
Secretary: Franck Galtié, NXP

Kickoff Meeting

The first Functional Safety Proposed Working Group meeting was held in December 2019 at NXP Semiconductors in Munich, Germany. The meeting included presentations on industry best practices and requirements, and explored directions for standardization.

The Accellera Technical Committee has established this new Proposed Working Group (PWG) to collect industry requirements for a potential standardization project for functional safety. Functional safety is a requirement for safety critical applications. The PWG will explore creation of working group to address the need for a standard or format supporting functional safety.

The EDA industry is developing tools and flows to perform functional safety analysis, and to make functional safety part of the design/verification/implementation flow. Many companies have expressed interest in standardization in this area with the goal to enable tool interoperability between FMEDA and the RTL-to-GDS flow.

The PWG will also clarify relations and dependencies to other functional safety standardization initiatives and identify potential working group participants.
